One quarter of our learning year has almost gone!

It's a great time to reflect on where you and your learners are at...

No matter what your setting, have you been provoking your learners to play and inquire into all the "drawers" of mathematics this term?

Remember - regularity of experience matters!

Check out our sample year overview planners to see how you can make this happen!

professional educators learn with their colleagues!

Let us help you be and become the best Mathematics Educator

you can be in 2024!

AITSL Standard 7.4 demands that we collaborate as professionals

and that is what Professional associations are all about, so come and learn, challenge and belong to your community of PMA MathsSA Colleagues

What are your key learning questions as a mathematics educator and/or leader?

Now you have had one term of learning and teaching, what areas of investigation do you want to connect with other educators about?

Is it the Art, Craft or Knowledge of learning and teaching that you are wanting to explore?

If you are in a Department site – are you wanting to take a “deep dive” into the “Four Areas of Impact” and what it means for your practices in action?

If you are in a Catholic site – are you wanting to think about the implications of the CESA Numeracy Strategy for you and your learning and teaching?

As a Preschool educator or leader – are you wanting to think about EYLF V2.0 and the impact for numeracy learning and teaching?

As a R-6 educator or leader– are you wanting to think about your system’s version of the AC: V9.0 and what it means for your learning and teaching?

Email us at primarymathsPD@bigpond.com and let us know how we can help you associate and learn with your colleagues in Term 2 and beyond.

Learning resources to support you...

Preschool Educators...

Now you and your learners have had a whole term of learning together,  it is a great time to think about whether you have been making use of the

PMA Preschool Members Resources.

They provide some great ideas for staff teams about how to:

  • Clarify your hopes and aspirations for your mathematical learning year

  • As a staff team, explore, clarify and describe which intentional teaching strategies through play you are going to utilise to provoke your children as mathematicians

  • Plan your learning through the year so that you can ensure you meet your responsibility to provide a learning environment which provokes all learners to explore all the Indicators of Numeracy and the Learning Processes (all five drawers of Mathematics)

We hope you can use them to drive some powerful mathematical thinking at your place

R-6 Educators…

Now you have had nearly a whole term of learning,  it is a great time to reflect on whether you have been making the best use of the  R-6 PMA Members Resources.

They provide some great ideas for staff teams about how to:

  • Build powerful mathematical learners.  Check out the resource titled “Connecting with your learners as mathematicians”. It is never to late to engage in some of these ideas.

There is an R/1 version and a Yr 2-6 version

  • Designing your year overview.

In English, we don’t teach reading in term 1, writing in term 2 and spelling in term 3 do we? Why not? …                 Because it wouldn’t help learners become powerful communicators in their world.

So…. we need to make sure we are not taking this same approach in Mathematics!

Evidence has shown us clearly that chopping your learning year up to explore a series of “unit of works”               across the year is not “best practice” and will definitely not get you the results you want!

Want to know more? Then check out the sample year planners and resources for each year level and                   combinations of year levels  and welcome your children to a powerful new  learning year!
